MUNA'S COOL TOURS: Eolo, il respiro del vulcano

Appena rientrata, non potevo non scrivere almeno un post sulle isole Eolie, le sette sorelle, isole mitiche e primitive, le sette isole vulcaniche (Stromboli, Vulcano, Panarea, Lipari, Salina, Filicudi e Alicudi) tutte diverse una dall'altra, per conformazione ed atmosfere, sparse nell'arco di 90 Km di mare blu intenso.

Just come back, how could I not write at least one post on the Aeolian islands, the seven sisters, mythical and primitive islands, the seven volcanic islands (Stromboli, Vulcano, Panarea, Lipari, Salina, Filicudi and Alicudi) all different from from each other for conformation and atmosphere, spread over 90 km of deep blue sea.

Una delle mie mete estive preferite ormai da decenni, un posto magico, a tratti surreale, fuori dal tempo - specie se la si visita fuori stagione - è l'isola di Stromboli, il vulcano attivo, Iddu per gli amici, un posto dove la storia convive con la natura, uno dei vulcani più attivi del mondo con una intensa e persistente attività vulcanica, ricca di luoghi incontaminati lontani dal turismo di massa.

One of my favorite summer destination since decades, a magical place, sometimes surreal, out of time - especially if you visit out of season - is the island of Stromboli, the active volcano, Iddu for the friends, a place where the history coexists with nature, one of the most active volcanoes in the world with an intense and persistent volcanic activity, rich in wild places far away from the tourism mass.

In aliscafo avvicinandosi la sagoma ed il faraglione di Strombolicchio si stagliano maestosamente sul mare come dardi di pietra immersi nel blu.

Scesi a terra si viene avvolti dalle essenze tipiche dell'arcipelago: gelsomino, menta, limone e dal saluto tellurico del vulcano, dai suoni e dai rumori del posto: il mare, il ronzio delle macchinette elettriche o di qualche vecchia Ape, le campane della Chiesa di San Bartolo, il grido di Pesce Fresco che risuona tra i vicoli e se lo porta il vento...

Approaching by hydrofoil the shape and the stack of Strombolicchio stand majestically over the sea like darts of stone into the deep blue.

Dropped to the ground, you are wrapped by the typical fragrances of the archipelago: jasmine, mint, lemon and by the telluric greeting of the volcano, by the sounds and noises of the place: the sea, the buzz of the electrical minicar or of some old Ape car, the bells of the Church of San Bartolothe , the cries of Pesce Fresco echoing through the alleys and the wind blows it ...

Secondo la mitologia classica le Isole Eolie erano la tana di Eolo, il Dio dei venti, Zefiro, Borea, Euro Noto, che egli teneva imprigionati in una grotta. I venti frementi e impazienti obbedivano al suo solo cenno. Sembra che Eolo riuscisse a prevedere le variazioni del tempo osservando la nube di vapori che fuoriusciva da un vulcano attivo, probabilmente lo Stromboli: oggi si sa infatti che la forma della nube di Stromboli è influenzata dall'andamento della pressione atmosferica.

Probabilmente da questa leggenda prende il nome la spiaggetta di sabbia nera denominata Grotta di Eolo, una delle più belle cale dove fare il bagno a Piscità.

According to classical mythology, the Aeolian Islands were the lair of Aeolus, the god of the winds, Zephyrus, Boreas, Euro Noto, which he kept imprisoned in a cave. The winds trembling and eager obeyed him at his only nod. Seems that Aeolus was able to predict changes in the weather by observing the vapor cloud that escaped from an active volcano, it probably was Stromboli: now, in fact, we know that the shape of the cloud of Stromboli is influenced by the atmospheric pressure.

Probably to this legend takes its name the black sand beach called Aeolus Cave, one of the most beautiful bays where you can swim in Piscità.

Ma l'isola, non è solo un posto per radical chic e famigliole, c'è molto altro, è un'isola hippie style, assolutamente gay friendly ed è (forse di conseguenza?) molto fashion, non dimenticate che è la tana di Dolce&Gabbana, li si può infatti facilmente incontrare a passeggio davanti alla locanda del Barbablù all'ora dell'aperitivo o sul lungomare prima che corrano a rinchiudersi nella loro splendida dimora, una villa eoliana di indubbia bellezza nel cuore del quartiere di Piscità. 

Ma Stromboli è anche la meta preferita di passaggio di Giorgio Armani e Naomi Campbell, di Sting, Robert De Niro e del Presidente della Repubblica Giorgio Napolitano, oltre che dei reali di Monaco... è un'isola molto fashion ma non lo da a vedere! 

But the island is not only a place for the radical chic and the small families, there is much more, is an  hippie style island, and is very gay friendly (perhaps as a result?), also very fashion - do not forget that it is the lair of Dolce & Gabbana - they may be in fact easily meet walking in front of the Barbablù inn in the happy hour or on the waterfront before they hasten to shut themselves up in their beautiful home, an Aeolian villa of unquestionable beauty in the heart of Piscità.

But Stromboli is also the favorite destination for pass of Giorgio Armani and Naomi Campbell, Sting, Robert De Niro and the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, as well as the royal of Monaco ... is an island very fashionable but does not to see!

Gli stilisti recentemente approdati nell'olimpo della Haute Couture hanno da poco presentato la loro collezione primavera estate 2013: un trionfo di colore, di Sicilia, di barocco, di stampe sovrapposte, ma soprattutto il ritorno al une piece: dal vestito (tutine multirighe o skater dress), agli accessori, scarpe, borse, orecchini, sono tutti pezzi unici con espliciti richiami alla Trinacria, una serie di capi hot in tutti i sensi che ti fanno venire di nuovo voglia di estate, energetici, coloratissimi, frivoli, provocanti e sexy ma - nota di merito - portabilissimi.

Quindi se avete intenzione di fare un salto anche voi in questo paradiso potete trovare bellissime ville e piccoli cubi da prendere in affitto, ce ne sono un'infinità, tra quelle che conosco, Casa Carlotta, tipica dimora eoliana curata e rifinita nei minimi particolari, doppio patio e un grande giardino con vista mare e vista vulcano.

Casa Rosa, una splendida villetta nel cuore del villaggio Piscità, il centro antico del paese con le vecchie case bianche di forma cubica fra stradine strette, scalinate e cortili fioriti. A pochi passi dal cancello della villa, rocciose scogliere di pietra lavica e deliziose spiagge di sabbia nera. La splendida proprietà è costituita dalla casa padronale, la Casetta e il Cubo, due graziose casette adiacenti, tutto si sviluppa attorno ad un piccolo ma curato e rigoglioso giardino con prato verde, fiori e piante mediterranee.


Casa Rosa, a beautiful villa in the heart of the village Piscità, the ancient center of the town with white houses cubic-shaped narrow streets, stairways and courtyards full of flowers. A few steps from the gate of the villa, rocky cliffs of lava stone and lovely beaches of black sand. E poi, Ca' Marina, più spartana, sicuramente, ma forse una delle più belle ville dell'isola. Situata alla fine del villaggio di Piscità, sulla spiaggia lunga, l'ultima spiaggia prima della Sciara, quella da cui si può ammirare il tramonto, il sole che scende in acqua (e se si è innamorati, vedere il raggio verde...), in una posizione unica, adagiata sulla sabbia nera circondata da un grande terrazzo con patio affacciato sul mare  e su Strombolicchio.

And then, Ca 'Marina, much more spartan, for sure, but maybe one of the finest villas on the island. Located at the end of the village of Piscità, on the spiaggia lunga, the last beach before the Sciara, the beach from which you can admire the sunset, the sun going down in the water (and if you are in love,  the green beam...) situated in a unique position, lying on the black sand surrounded by a large terrace with patio overlooking the sea and Strombolicchio.

Infine, una volta lì non potete lasciarvi sfuggire l'occasione di un giro dell'isola, o di un tuffo nello specchio d'acqua di Strombolicchio, magari con una tappa all'antico villaggio di Ginostra. Potete allora rivolgervi a Pasqualo, lì potrete noleggiare piccole lance sorrentine (vi consiglio la Princess, è molto carina e facilmente governabile) o i più veloci gommoni per per un'escursione indimenticabile in uno dei mari più belli ed esclusivi della nostra penisola.

Finally, once there you cannot miss the opportunity to trip around the island, or plunge in the open water of Strombolicchio, possibly with a stop at the ancient village of Ginostra. 
You can turn to Pasqualo, there you can rent small Sorrento boats (I recommend the Princess, is very pretty and easily manageable) or the faster rafts, for an unforgettable excursion to one of the most beautiful and unique seas of our country.

Un paio di anni fa a settembre ho conosciuto un gruppo di ragazzi, di una casa di produzione cinematografica la Todos Contentos Y Yo Tambien, che erano sull'isola per completare il  documentario che avevano girato su Stromboli...."La Guerra dei Vulcani" un docu-film che svela vizi e virtù del cinema italiano al suo apogeo e dona finalmente una più giusta prospettiva storica al più grande scandalo della cinematografia mondiale.

A couple of years ago in September, I met a group of guys, a film production company, the Todos contentos Y Yo Tambien, who were on the island to complete the documentary they had shot on Stromboli .... "The War of the Volcanoes" a documentary film that reveals the vices and virtues of the Italian cinema at its peak and finally gives a more historical perspective to the greatest scandal of world cinema.

Il documentario firmato da Francesco Patierno, che verrà presentato dopo il successo appena riscontrato a Venezia e Toronto (7 settembre), a New York (il 29 settembre, come unico progetto italiano selezionato insieme ai fratelli Taviani) ed a Londra in ottobre, è il frutto di tre anni di ricerche negli archivi di tutto il mondo.
Un documentario bellissimo che rilegge con un linguaggio innovativo la vicenda della "Guerra dei Vulcani", ripercorrendo le fasi del triangolo amoroso Rossellini-Bergman-Magnani e la rivalità tra i due set nelle isole Eolie.
Un film ricco di materiale di repertorio che offre un'avvincente lettura delle note vicende che va al di là del documentario di ricostruzione di un'epoca. Il regista riesce praticamente a far 'parlare' sequenze dei film dei tre protagonisti del triangolo amoroso facendoli diventare parte integrante della storia, in una sorta di efficace osmosi che disvela il sottile confine tra finzione e realtà.

The documentary signed by Francesco Patierno, which will be presented soon after the success encountered in Venice and Toronto (September 7) in New York (September 29, as the only Italian project selected with the Taviani brothers) and in London in October, is the result of three years of research in archives around the world.
A beautiful documentary with an innovative language that reads the story of "The War of the Volcanoes", retracing the steps of the love triangle between Rossellini-Bergman-Magnani and the rivalries between the two sets in the Aeolian Islands.
A film full of stock footage that offers a compelling reading of the well-known events that goes beyond the documentary reconstruction of an era. The director manages to virtually 'talk' the sequences from the films of the three protagonists of the love triangle, so that they become an integral part of the story, in a kind of osmosis that effectively reveals the fine line between fiction and reality.

La guerra dei Vulcani racconta un pezzo di storia del cinema italiano e mondiale, una storia intensa e senza tempo come il luogo in cui si svolge. 

Il documentario prende spunto da una vicenda non a tutti nota: un gruppo di giovani cineasti guidati dal pioniere della cinematografia subacquea Francesco Alliata fonda una casa di produzione denominata Panaria Film. Il loro punto di riferimento sono le Eolie e presentano a Roberto Rossellini le riprese effettuate e delle idee per un possibile film. 

E' il 1949, Rossellini all'epoca è all’apice del successo e condivide la vita artistica e affettiva con Anna Magnani, una storia d'amore passionale fatta di continui litigi e piccole scaramucce tra amanti dal carattere forte e difficile. Un amore, destinato a bruciare in fretta. Una lettera inviata da Ingrid Bergman, dea e diva del momento, alla Minerva - casa di produzione di Rossellini - viene recapitata fortunosamente, a un anno di distanza dalla spedizione, al regista. La Bergman in quella lettera rivela tutta la sua ammirazione per il regista. E’ allora che Rossellini, già notissimo sciupafemmine, fa il colpo del secolo: tradisce e abbandona la Magnani e in breve diventa l’amante della diva mondiale più amata degli anni '50. 

A conclamare il loro amore, la collaborazione artistica per il film Stromboli, di cui la Bergman è protagonista assoluta. Rossellini si approprierà delle idee degli uomini della Panaria Film e girerà con lei Stromboli.

La Guerra dei Vulcani tells a piece of the history of Italian and world cinema, an intense story and timeless as the place in which it takes place.
The film is inspired by a story not known to all: a group of young filmmakers led by the pioneer of underwater cinematography Francesco Alliata founded a production company called Panaria Film. Their point of reference is the Aeolian and they present to Roberto Rossellini the shooting they carried out ​​and some ideas for a possible film.

It was the 1949, Rossellini at that time was at the height of success and shares the emotional and artistic life with Anna Magnani, a passionate love story, a series of small fights and skirmishes between lovers with a strong and hard character. To sanction their love, the artistic collaboration for the film Stromboli of which the Bergman is the absolute protagonist. Rossellini will appropriate of the ideas of the men of Panaria Film and will spin with her Stromboli.

Anna Magnani ovviamente è furente, non desiste e prepara la vendetta. L'arma con cui cercherà di piegare e umiliare Rossellini, così da ripagarlo con la stessa moneta, le viene fornita incredibilmente dal destino e, non a caso, si tatta di un film, Vulcano, una produzione cinematografica che si imbarcherà in una sfida a distanza ravvicinata da combattere sul campo comune delle assolate Eolie del dopoguerra.

Anna Magnani is obviously angry, she does not give up and prepares the revenge. The weapon by which she will try to bend and humiliate Rossellini, in order to pay him back with the same coin, is incredibly given by fate and, not surprisingly, it's a film, Volcano, a film production that will embark on a challenge to close range fight on the common field of the sunny Aeolian just after the war.

Seguendo le tracce del libro di Anile e Giannice dal titolo omonimo, Patierno ha realizzato sicuramente un bellissimo documentario che consentirà al grande pubblico di ripercorrere e conoscere una vicenda che tenne in agitazione le cronache di mezzo mondo in una commistione intricatissima di realtà e immaginario.

Following the traces of the book with the same title of Anile and Giannice, Patierno has certainly made ​​a beautiful documentary that will allow the large public to revisit and know an affair that took place in the chronicles and unrest people over the world in an intricate mingling of reality and imagination.

Un evento carino che si svolge sull'isola ogni anno è la Festa del Fuoco, per quindici giorni artisti, giocolieri, danzatori e circensi imperversano sull'isola, dando spettacolo con musica e giochi di fuoco in varie location sull'isola.

A nice event that takes place on the island every year is the Festival of Fire, for a fortnight artists, jugglers, dancers and circus raging on the island, giving the show with music and fireworks in various locations on the island.
